This is a gorgeous A-style mandolin built by Will Kimble of Kimble Mandolins (Style AR, #003, June 2001). This was the first mandolin I purchased from Will and the third one he crafted. At the time I met Will, he was just getting started building mandolins and was experimenting with every mandolin. He designed and built this unique mandolin to use a Rigel neck and when I played it, I just had to have it! It has a sitka top with tonebar bracing, a beautiful one piece, highly figured, red maple back, oil varnish with French polish, Rigel neck with Graphite epoxy truss rod and Schaller tuners.
Because I loved it so much, I immediately ordered up a customer F from Will and since that time, I have rarely played the AR. It's such a visually beautiful and wonderfully sounding instrument, that it really needs to be in the hands of someone who will play it regularly and enjoy it. Old Time and Celtic musicians will probably enjoy the look of the A-style, but don't let the style fool you. This mandolin has a nice bright tone and is absolutely loud enough to play in any bluegrass jam (and it has a fabulous chop!).
Overall, the instrument is in excellent condition and there isn't a nick or scratch on it. The back does show very, very minimal markings (in the varnish only) that came from a belt buckle I forgot I had on (big oops!). Again, there isn't a scratch on the back, just a very slight mark in the varnish that's hardly noticeable unless you look very, very closely. $2950.00.
