Augusta_03_0072 Hi I'm Brad Waggoner, living here in Murphy NC is like winning the lottery only without getting the check. Murphy sits in the southwestern corner of the state where the air is crisp and clean and the charm of small town America still exists. I've always loved the mountains of the southern Appalachians, it's people, the cultural heritage, and landscape. I hope to bring to you a glimpse of life here, and if you like, as owner/broker of CNC Realty help you find your place here as well. Feel free to email me with any questions and I'll be happy to share with you all that I can.

A New Family Member

We have a new member in our family. His name is Cody. He is a red merle male Australian Shepard. Cody came to us from the Valley River Humane Society. We think he is about one year old. To say he is energetic is an understatement. Cody is all boy and full of piss and vinegar, but a real sweetie who has found his way into our hearts. You can read more about Cody and see how we have helped him adjust to life here in our home on our trainer's blog at WWW.ColdNoseCollege.com

Kimble Mandolin For Sale - SOLD !

Lisa writes...

This is a gorgeous A-style mandolin built by Will Kimble of Kimble Mandolins (Style AR, #003, June 2001).  This was the first mandolin I purchased from Will and the third one he crafted.  At the time I met Will, he was just getting started building mandolins and was experimenting with every mandolin.  He designed and built this unique mandolin to use a Rigel neck and when I played it, I just had to have it!  It has a sitka top with tonebar bracing, a beautiful one piece, highly figured, red maple back, oil varnish with French polish, Rigel neck with Graphite epoxy truss rod and Schaller tuners.

Because I loved it so much, I immediately ordered up a customer F from Will and since that time, I have rarely played the AR.  It's such a visually beautiful and wonderfully sounding instrument, that it really needs to be in the hands of someone who will play it regularly and enjoy it.  Old Time and Celtic musicians will probably enjoy the look of the A-style, but don't let the style fool you.  This mandolin has a nice bright tone and is absolutely loud enough to play in any bluegrass jam (and it has a fabulous chop!).

Overall, the instrument is in excellent condition and there isn't a nick or scratch on it.  The back does show very, very minimal markings (in the varnish only) that came from a belt buckle I forgot I had on (big oops!).  Again, there isn't a scratch on the back, just a very slight mark in the varnish that's hardly noticeable unless you look very, very closely. $2950.00.
All reasonable offers considered. Email Lisa at lisa@coldnosecollege.com for more information

Agility In The Moonlight

After what seems like a month of rain it was nice to see the sun yesterday. Last night after supper when Lisa let Gibson out for his evening constitutional, she stepped back in and told me to get my coat and shoes. Well, being +R trained myself I quickly complied and headed out the door.  What we found was a beautiful crisp clear night with a moon as bright as day.  We walked out into the pasture marveling at how bright it was.  I love seeing shadows cast by the moonlight.  As we neared the agility field, you could see the colors on the equipment, the blue and yellow teeter, the red white and blue tire jump, and the green, blue and red hurdle jumps.  The closer we got, the quicker Gibson’s steps were.  Lisa gave the cue, “tire!” and Gibson picked up speed, headed straight for it and through the tire he went. Then “hut”….”hut” and over two hurdle jumps in a flash.  Then “teeter!” up and over, pausing on the yellow zone, and off.  Next was ”weave” and through the weave poles he went, then one last “hut” and over the last hurdle.  We could have spent more time there but we continued our walk around the pasture just soaking in the moonlight and chasing sticks. Back inside with another log on the fire and a pooped pooch by our feet, we knew that we were surely a couple of lucky dogs.

We Lost a Friend and Neighbor

Our friend and neighbor Liz Donavon died Monday night of lung cancer. Liz and her husband Joe have been friends since their move to Murphy from Miami. Liz didn't speak often of her past work, but here is what he Miami Herald had to say.  Click here for link.  Liz loved to cook and she loved capturing the sights around our area in her photography. We will all miss her.

A Sabbatical Year

It's hard to believe that it's been a year since I started my sabbatical. When I left the offices of McNabb Properties I wasn't sure which way I would be heading. It has indeed been a year full of life and living. In December I licensed my own real estate firm, BKW INC. and chose to work solely as a buyer's agent. I also took on a more involved role with Cold Nose College, our dog training business. Lisa and I attended Clicker Expo where we were able to talk and work with some of the finest trainers in the world, (yes the world). Just last month we went to Berkley CA for a four day professional dog walking academy. The things we learned there have already proved to be greatly valuable. This month Lisa and I again are headed to the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) conference in Kentucky where we'll meet and hear some of the finest in the field of dog training and behavior. To wrap up my year of education and learning the the dog field I'm headed to Maryland for a five day intensive level 1 intern academy at Peaceable Paws, which is owned by Pat Miller, one of the best. I guess after reading this myself I'm pretty heavily involved with Cold Nose College.

In the past year there have also been losses. Our 21 year old Kitzy Kat passed away as well as our 12 year old Abbey the Angel Dog. Both left big empty spots on our hearts and home. Lisa's mom, Shirley Lyle also passed away this year. In her honor we had a big celebration of life gathering here at the farm and were joined by wonderful friends and family. She too will be missed.

One of my goals when I set out on this sabbatical was to reconnect with my creative side. I have found a new outlet for those creative energies. They are Barn Angels. These creations have given me great joy and also a larger connection to my spiritual self.

I could not have done any of this without the help and support if my dear wife of 24 years, Lisa, she too is an angel. I guess what I've been reminded of is that life is not the destination, but the journey that takes us places we haven't even dreamed of. So I shall journey on.

Abbey The Angel Dog

We're not exactly sure when she came into this world. We do know that she came into our lives in October of 1996 and left this world this morning September 11 2008. From the very beginning Lisa referred to her as the Angel Dog. Abbey taught us more than we will ever realize about life, relationships, unconditional love and yes, dieing. I could write volumes, but suffice it to say, she will be missed.
